Underrated Product: Lip Liners

I think one item that isn't talked about enough in the beauty world is the humble lip liner. Something I use daily, and something I feel everyone would benefit from using, seriously lipstick just sits and looks 10x better with it on. So I am reaching out to all of you to tell me which liners you love, which ones stand out from the crowd, and which ones I just NEED in my stash.

To help, I have swatched my whole liner collection, just incase you are looking for some new ones too :)
I am also debating twist up VS pencil, pencils are more effort, but they just seem to last 10x longer. eg. My £3.99 Rimmel liner will be used 3x quicker than a MAC Pencil, which means their cost works out to be about the same... so would love to know your thoughts on it too :)

I will link them all below, and will link up posts to the lipsticks I have done reviews on so you can see them in action :)

The Nudes

1. Estee Lauder Spice - My Most used without a doubt. This one is expensive, but so worth it, the formula is just so smooth, and it is the perfect pair to all my nude lipsticks. I love pairing this with Honey Love & Velvet Teddy from MAC.

2. Rimmel Addiction - This is an odd colour, nude yet pink toned, so perfect for if I am wanting a lipstick more nude based. I like to use this with Viva Glam II sometimes, or even Sexy Sienna if I want a peachy nude, it looks beautiful.

3. MAC Whirl - Cult classic. I don't actually wear this one as much as I thought I would, it's very similar to EL spice, which I prefer the formula on. But it pairs perfectly with Whirl & Very Victoria

The Pinks

4. MAC Edge to Edge - This is my go to pink liner, I won't typically wear vivid pinks, but this one is the go to for the dusky pinks I do wear. Typically Backtalk & Mehr

5. Rimmel Eastend Snob - Another cult classic, I actually bought Edge to Edge to replace this, but the colours aren't an exact match, dang. This is more dusky... it is beautiful. This one is fab with Doll Parts

6. Kiko Temptress 3 - This one actually came with a lipstick, but I will use it with it's pair Temptress, or with UD Jilted

The Plum/Reds

7. Collection Damson - This one is STUNNING. But I want to find a pencil version of this one, I typically use this with Hel's Bells and Devine Wine

8. Rimmel Obsession - I completely forgot about this one, I will usually use this with a Red, or even Whirl to give it more of a red tone, liners are so good at changing a lip.

9. Barry M Red - The Red to go with my only Red. MAC Opera from their Toledo range last year. I don't wear it often. But when I do, it is lovely. I will use this with Devine wine on occasion too, give a purple more of a red tone :)

The Rest

10. MAC Lasting Sensation - The Orange to go with Morange. Pretty cool to use with coral/peach lips too like Sexy Sienna.

11. Urban Decay Snitch - Sexy Sienna's perfect liner, this one is newest to my stash. Its not very often I buy a liner especially for a lipstick, but this one deserved it's own :)

12. Urban Decay Ozone - The liner to go with all the rest. Prime and set your lipstick with this and you'll reduce bleeding. I must admit though, I don't reach for this as much as I should.

I am working on growing my liner collection, so let me know the ones you love and which ones you think I just need in my collection.. do you prefer a twist up or a pencil?

Let me know in the comments below :)

  1. The Rimmel ones are really nice, I haven't tried any lip liners from Rimmel before. Lip liner is a product that I usually neglect using, especially in the morning where I don't have much time to do my makeup so I just use a lipstick. But if I am doing my makeup for a night out or a special event, I am definitely using a lip liner!

  5. I never thought about how underrated they are until now. I love the lip liners I own from Mac, Urban Decay, and Rimmel. I've always wanted to try the Urban Decay Ozone, but I can't decide if it's worth it or not.

  6. The rimmel ones look and sound so good, I haven't tried any of the twist up ones before. I do always reach for Mac ones but solely for how many colours they have to choose from! Estée Lauder spice looks lush! xx

  7. I have Rimmel Eastend Snob it's a gorgeous shade. My favourite lip liners have to be from GOSH. They are super creamy and really pigmented. I prefer creamy ones like Rimmel and Gosh rather than the actual pencil type ones.

  9. I've recently discovered how important lip pencils are, and now I want to grow my collection too. Spice by Estée Lauder is the most gorgeous colour, I own nothing like it! I love Soar by MAC, it's a really pretty brownish mauve colour, very on trend at the moment :)

  10. Rimmel, Avon, NYX have some of the best budget lip liners in the market. Catrice and Essence make really good ones too. Lip liners is something that I don't spend lots of money on, I just couldn't justify paying lots for them.

  15. I used to love Rimmel's liners before I went cruelty-free. The formula of them is really amazing and it's been tough trying to find some new cruelty-free drugstore faves. I've found the NYX ones are very nice (although NYX is owned by L'oreal) but the best lip liners ever are by a Finnish brand called Lumene. They just glide on effortlessly and the colour payoff is fab!

  18. This is so helpful! I've only recently tried lip liner and I only have three to my name, MAC's Soar (lovely with MAC Brave and NARS Anita), Rimmel's East End Snob and a NYX one I'm not to sure about the shade. This is so helpful to find the perfect pairing thanks so much! :)
