Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation Review and Swatches

Estee Lauder Double Wear is a foundation pretty much everyone owns, from every blogger on the planet to my grandmother, everyone is rocking double wear.

So I decided to do a review with a twist, to see it if really is worth its hype, and deserves its cult status.

Buying & Shade Range
Estee Lauder is the counter I tell people to go to if they don't know what shade they are. They are incredible. They don't use a machine, instead they use clear cards to help you choose yourself, then they try a few until you are happy with the match. They then give you a really good sized sample to try and take away, then come back if you loved it. Can't really ask for much more.

Their shade range is incredible. Everything is sectioned into warm/neutral/cool too, its super easy to understand, and once you know what you are at the EL counter, you can pretty much figure out what shade you are everywhere else :)

Testing
So I have had the double wear now for about 6 months, but I must admit I haven't been using it - (I will go into why below) So I decided to put it though my best challenge yet.

I wore it to a hen party. Not just any hen, but a water tubing hen. Now I must admit I didn't realise quite how wet I would be getting, but put it this way - I jumped off a 20ft cliff into a pool of water... with a full face of makeup on... so this is how it lasted.

The Results
The minute I realised my face had been submerged I knew this photo review was a goner, I knew it was going to be a total disaster and I would have to redo it. So I stopped caring and had fun. I jumped off the cliff about 4 times, along with the tubing along the river and generally having an amazing time.
I was in shock when I got back to the base. My makeup was still on. Fair enough my base was far from flawless, but the foundation was still on, as was my blush, it had held itself together. Instant winner in my eyes, my T-zone had been hit the hardest, but it looked fab considering what it had been through, no wonder it has such a good review.
I can 100% say, that Estee Lauder Double Wear will not only last you all day, it will last a rainstorm and falling into a river.
The One Downside.
The only downside I know of EL Double Wear is the lack of pump. The reason I haven't used it since buying it was I was waiting on my MAC Studio fix finishing so I could steal the pump from that. So those of you who are clumsy like me run to MAC and grab a pump for it :)

  1. Loved this foundation when I first bought it, but the longer I use it the more I find its drying my skin out! I've tried everything to moisturise my skin and prepare it for this but it just still dries me out. I'm thinking I'm going to have to switch it out for something a bit more dewy and forgiving!

Excellent review, though! As if it still survived all that water!

  3. I used it a few years ago and I remember how much I loved it back then! It lasts all day long without messing up and gives really good coverage. Not having a pump is a problem, however when you pour it on a flat glass/metal surface, it is not a big problem :)

  9. I've recently got this foundation and love it although I'm not sure I ended up with the right shade! I love the coverage though and it definitely stays put without being oily on my t-zone. I don't mind not having a pump because it means if I pour too much out, I can just scrape it back in so none is wasted :-)

  10. Brilliant review of this foundation - you put it to the ultimate test! I actually used to use this foundation, however found the long-lasting coverage to be an issue (can you believe, haha?!) as no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it to all come off my skin at night and it resulted in flaring up breakouts! Though if you don't have acne prone skin I've no doubt that wouldn't be a problem! :)

  12. My mum swears by this and she kept pestering me to purchase it so I borrow hers to try (we are very similar in shades) and I hated it! It looked so cakey on my skin! But I think the main reason why is I dislike anything more than medium coverage, I love my base to be sheer and very light.

  13. I had this a while back and unfortunately it didn't work for me, it dried my skin out too much, I wanted it to work so bad because so many people love it!
