Why I Sold My Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette (Not Worth The Hype)

Without a doubt the most hyped up palette this year so far, and sure it really is beautiful. I was right on that band wagon as soon as they released the pictures - and I had to get my hands on it - the second of the pre-release.

The pictures were incredible. I cannot resist a warm palette and this is warm toned goodness. I LOVE the shade range, I love a warm shadow palette. I have way too many already, but alas it is my weak spot, and I never seem to own enough of them.

So I bought it the day of the pre-release, and I reviewed it here.

I made my feelings on it pretty clear in the review:
Overall, I am happy I bought it - I would have had serious FOMO without it, and it is a stunning selection of colours. But I don't think it is worth as much hype is it is getting. I strongly feel it needs a gold, half baked would have been beautiful in it (and I know its already been in 2 palettes, but it is the best shade ever lol)
I also feel that (OMG Urban Decay don't hate me for saying this...BUT) the Violet Voss Holy Grail palette is nicer, and if you have that, you don't need this - unless you have FOMO like me then GET IT! lol

BUT, 10 days after buying it & Reviewing it... I sold it. And here is why.

1.  It's all a bit SAMEY.
There is only really two eye looks you can do with it, the shimmery reddy brown eye and a matte reddy brown eye, I just don't feel inspired when I use it to create a different eye look every time. - and that makes me sad for the price.

2. The Shimmer Shades Don't Apply Well
As much as Scorched swatches beautifully, it just doesn't apply well using a brush on the lid. It requires fix+ or using your fingers - its just effort.

3. The Shade I Do Love - I Have Already.
My absolute favourite shade in the palette is Lumbre, and the Sweet Peach palette has a shade exactly the same, or MAC melon pigment is a more amped up version :)

4. Ember
This swatches beautifully, but when you blend it out, this turns into a cool grey tone. Which RUINS any warm eye. I had a moment to cry when it ruined a look I did. It was upsetting.

5. No Black. No Gold.
This shade is missing a good dark shade, and it is missing a gold. Every good warm toned palette like this needs a good gold shade. Half Baked would be the perfect addition, but for once they didn't add it. WHY UD! It needs it to break it up a bit. And sure I could buy the single. But I shouldn't have to spend another £16 on a single to make a £40 eyeshadow palette work.

6. I Just Wasn't Reaching For It.
I did my makeup every day after buying this, and usually when I wear makeup after buying a new palette I cannot stop using it. But I didn't get the excitement over it at all, I didn't pick it up wanting to use it - I didn't pick it up at all.

7. I Have Palettes Like It - and That I Like More
Buying this made me pull out my Violet Voss Palette which I LOVE. It got me more excited over using the violet voss palette than the Heat, I just prefer it. It also had me wanting to use the MAC singles I have like it, just everything but it really!

8. I Got Back What I Paid For It.
I bought it for £39.50, then selling it on a local site after swatching and using it, I got £40 for it. So if I do decide I want it again (which I doubt I will) I haven't lost any money.

So, I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but thought I would share anyways.

The Naked Heat palette will be available to buy at the end of this month!

What is your thoughts on it? Do you have it and love it? Would you buy it? Let me know in the comments below :)

The UD Palette is available here for £39.50 Via UD

The Violet Voss Holy Grail Palette is available here for £40.00

  1. It's such a shame when you are excited for a product & then you find you're not using it. Best to sell it on & find something you're going to use more than to have it sitting there unused lovely xxxx

  2. Ah that's such a pity! The shades does look really pretty though although the lighter shades wouldn't work on my skin.

  8. I absolutely adore mine! I have managed to create so many incredible looks including blending out some orange sunset looks and it seriously is the only palette I have reached for since I bought it xx

  9. This is refreshing to read! I've been battling with myself about this palette. Sure, it's beautiful, but I have about three million shadows that are really similar! I think I'll skip!

  11. Thank god you wrote this! I've used TWO shades since getting it and they are absolutely dire! I'm thinking of selling mine too - would you mind if I also wrote a post on the subject?

  12. I was just finishing up writing a review on this and I totally agree with a lot of your points and totally get why you've sold it! I definitely noticed the lack of an intense dark shade or lighter gold/copper shade when I used this and I ended up having to use other palettes to complete the look.

  13. There is nothing more disappointing than buying a new palette and not liking it, it's a shame you didn't get on well with it. I wanted it this when I seen its release but I already have to many warm eyeshadow palettes x

  15. I loved this post so much! I think it's super well-thought out and I've never read anything quite like it before! It's so refreshing to read and I totally connect to it. I think the hardest thing in the beauty world is creating a new and innovative palette with different shades and etc.

  21. It looks beautiful, however, I was surprised that Urban Decay were slow off the mark with the burnt sunset trend. It's been done a million times and I was kind of hoping they'd come up with the next big trend instead of just jumping on this bandwagon.

  22. Such a shame. I love mine and use it everyday. I love that it has so many warm tones in one palette xx

  24. Nothing wrong with decluttering it, especially if you made back your money! Now you can spend it on something unique that you will actually use :) The shades look super pretty but I can see how you could only do a couple of looks with it!

  28. If you're not happy with the product the best you can do is declutter it! To be honest, I'm very excited for this palette! The release date in Spain is in three days but I've already pre ordered it! After reading your blog post, I believe I will have some things in mind when I try it out. If I'm not happy with it, I know i'll be another human decluttering it! Thanks for your honest review!

    Lots of love,

    Gara. xx

  30. You've made me want to buy the Violet Voss one, I have my name on the list for Naked Heat when it launches on counter but I doubt I'm going to buy it

  31. I don't tend to use black eye shadow ever so I don't think that would bother me. I still think I might end up purchasing this as the shades are so me.

  32. As much as I really want to try that palette, I am with you, I just think that I have other products that are really similar!

  34. This is the second time that I read that the UD heat palette is not worth the hype...Some of their shades remind me some few colors that I already own...If they had it all matte I may buy it but I just can see the hype of it and hey, at least you got the money back!

  38. Yay to this post and i love your honesty. I didn't buy it in the first place as I have 385055 similar shades and I saw live swatches and it didn't look great ! At least you didn't lose any money either x

  39. I was planning on buying this but I'm happy you've given such an honest review of it! x

  40. I have bought it in a pre-sale and love it! But I can totally see where you are coming from. There is not a huge range of colours and they are all very similiar in tone. So unless you like this colour tone then it wouldn't be something that would be worth spending the money on.
    I love your honesty!

  41. I've had the worst FOMO after deciding not to buy one but after reading this I feel so much better- and the reasons you've listed are exactly the reasons why I decided to pass in the first place! For the money I can get a much more versatile palette, and I already have so many warm orange/red/brown shadows!

  45. This is a very helpful post! I've been lusting 1after this palette so much and was just about to buy it. The only thing stopping me was trying to find out weather I wanted it because I did or because of the hype. (I'm sure it's just because if they hype). I'm happy to know it's probably not worth it.

  46. I got this palette on pre-release sale also, but I've been so busy with work and travelling that I haven't had a chance to open it. I've been so eager to try it, but now I don't know what to make of it. I know exactly what you mean, and after my excitement of getting it, it's a sad realisation. I don't mind mixing up my palettes to create a look, so I'll guess I'll just have to do that instead! Thank you for being honest.

  47. I haven't bought this, but have seen SO much hype on Twitter over this, this week. I wasn't too sure what all of the fuss was about, so it's good to see an honest review about it! As you say, a good gold colour would have been a good addition!

  48. Honestly, I feel like it's ANOTHER warm pallet on the market-they all have orange and reddy Browns now. Morphe do loads with more colours and half the price. My biggest regret on make up is buying the Naked 2 pallet. I use Makeup Revolution over it and biggest waste of 40 pounds. Might sell mine too.
