Procrastinating Like A Pro

One of my favourite past times is procrastinating. Something about it is just so time wasting and brain fulfilling, a complete and utter waste of time and resources, but hey, sometimes its fun to give your brain a break and waste a crap tonne of precious time by doing worse than nothing.

On the upside, these things do tend to benefit mental health, given their soothing properties. Everyone needs to take time to themselves and just not be in the moment for a while. But still, it is something that we all do and wish we don't - especially when their is a to-do list longer than your arm.

So I thought I would share with you all my favourite ways of wasting my time...

Who doesn't love spending hours binge watching friends? It's probably a good thing Netflix doesn't have an "Hours Spent Watching" Feature, because I know mine would be super humiliating. Like hours upon hours watching anything and everything. It is Queen of all time wasters, in the best possible way.

I must spend so much imaginary money it's ridiculous. Fill my basket full of beautiful clothes and makeup, well over my current bank account balance, knowing fine well I have zero intentions of actually buying any of it, but dreaming of it anyway. Then to get an email stating "Did you forget to check out?" - em no.

There is something therapeutic about colour coding all your DVDs or books, spending hours rearranging makeup drawers. Labelling them. Colour coding all your sons lego, sorting through all your notes and colour coding them. I really like colour coding... can you tell?

I love swatching makeup, all the time. Anything swatch-able and I am swatching it on my hand/arm. I can easily waste a good hour swatching every lipstick I own. Its like a compulsion to do it. I have no idea why I do it, but I will spend all night swatching everything I own. On the upside it is a really good source of inspo for the blog. *yay*

The destructor of all has to be social media. I spend far far far too much time scrolling through IG, twitter, facebook and Pinterest. Instagram has to be the worst, by far. The stories, the pictures, the chatting... so much time just lost. But somehow so satisfying.

Damn you sims. I just want to build you big beautiful houses, make you have 8 children and get abducted by aliens. The next thing I know its 3am and I have forgotten to do anything other than care for my sims. ARGH I love Sims.

It's not often that cleaning is considered as procrastinating… but when you have loads of essays to do, it suddenly becomes really appealing. Today I have cleaned my whole house, done 3 loads of washing, cleaned out the hamster and hoovered. Why? Because I have two English essays that I do not want to do. So suddenly jobs I hate doing are way more appealing than the essays.

YouTube is EVIL. You are watching a makeup video and the next thing you know its 3 hours later and you are watching xfactor videos from 10 years ago. Or Cat videos. Or top 10 videos *damn you Watch Mojo*

I spend FAR too much time walking around town, coffee in hand, just browsing. I can spend hours at a time just wandering about. It just soothes me somehow, like cut off from the world as long as their is a gingerbread latte in my hand. Probably why I do it 3-4 times a week.

I love nail varnish, and when I have a lot I should be doing instead I love it even more. Hence the pictures for this post. I have SO much revising I need to do, so much that the guilt led me to colour code, label and organise every nail varnish I own. Turns out its over 50. And I REALLY like blue nail varnish.

If you liked this post check out this one. It's the opposite and discusses how I manage life as a Mature / Parent Student.

I am such a pro at wasting time, it is definitely a gift. What is your favourite thing to do when you shouldn't be doing it? What is your downfall? Let me know in the comments below.

This doesn't effect at all what I promote, it simply means if you choose to purchase through the link, I get a small thank you from the retailer for sending you their way. This won't cost you any more money, and won't affect your shopping experience, and if you are not comfortable with this, just google the item instead :)
