So, Three Sent Me An iPhone...

Without a doubt the weirdest moment of my blogging life so far. Without any prior warning I had a knock at my door, parcel to sign for - open it up... and out falls a new boxed iPhone 7. I actually squealed "What the f*ck" and a "huh"

So 3 very kindly sent me an iPhone 7 to try - not keep. To try for a month and send back to them, but still I was happy to play around with something new - and to see if its worth my time and cash upgrading from my current 6S+, or potentially downsizing to the standard size.

So I played around with post ideas on this, but I decided just to do a rambling pro & con type post, one vs the other and all.

iPhone 7 Vs Previous:

  • For me the game changer is the camera, the perks of having brighter, clearer, just plain better photos is hard to resist, especially as I am photo obsessed.
  • The screen does seem clearer, crisper, just a generally more pretty feel to it.
  • The button has changed. It is no longer an actual button, it feels expensive, and I like how it unlocks.

"Plus" + Size Vs Standard:

  • If you use your phone for basically anything, having a gigantic screen is a definite perk. Watching youtube, scrolling instagram, looking at photos, taking photos.. its all just BETTER on a huge screen.
  • If you have clumsy fingers it is much easier to type on - with two hands...

iPhone 7 Vs Previous:
  • The price. The cost of early upgrading can be pretty hefty, I wouldn't consider running out and splashing big bucks on this, as it isn't as much of an upgrade as previous have been.
  • The look hasn't changed. It upsets me they didn't change the appearance. I was expecting a curved screen, or just something, but it is no different.
  • Not enough of a change. It just seems like they haven't put much more into the 7 vs the 6, it just feels like another phone we feel like we need, and not enough of a jump. Maybe it's just me?
"Plus" + Size Vs Standard:
  • It is impossible to type one handed. You need two, or you risk dropping it.
  • It doesn't fit in clutch bags
  • It doesn't fit in pockets.
  • It will make all other phones look TEEENY.

Iphone 6S+ vs Iphone 7
So basically, don't early upgrade over it, but if you are due your upgrade go for a 7, and do not go for a + size, unless you never want to own a normal sized phone again - because it will ruin you for all other phones - sorry!

Huge shoutout to Three for sending me this, it was so fun to try! (and now I want the red 7+ *cries*)

So, which phone do you have? are you due your upgrade soon? anything you are tempted by?

  1. I would have loved to see portrait mode since everyone says you should upgrade solely for that!

  2. I've always though that the plus versions are far too big to be practical! It's funny how at one point, the smaller the phone the better and how they're huge again! xx

  3. I would only buy it for the camera upgrade!

  4. Wow how amazing. I really want the 7 plus purely for the camera. It's incredible! X

  5. This is the coolest thing ever!! How awesome is that, I definitely want to get it for the camera alone, brilliant post Erin. Hope you have a great weekend x

  6. I'm currently saving up for an iPhone 7, rose gold obviously x

  7. Such a helpful post, I have an iPhone 6s+ and was considering upgrading to it but I don't think I will right now until my contract has run out and then perhaps rethink what I'm going to do then x

  8. Ah so undecided on this! The camera seems amazing, but I hate how big it is and how it doesn't have a headphone port!xx

  9. This was really interesting, it's the camera that sells the newer model for me. However I have a 5.5 inch Samsung S7 edge currently so don't think I would want a smaller screen. I'm thinking of switching back to Apple when my upgrade is due next year.

  10. Gosh how amazing they sent it to you to try but they could have let you keep it couldn't they lol! I would love to have one for the improved camera but I refuse to pay the huge contract price when my older iPhone is still really good and I've got a cheap sim only deal x

  11. How exciting! I have a 7 atm and the plus seems so tempting just for the camera quality!xx

  12. I couldn't live without an iphone now, I tried a Samsung last year and hated it so changed it for an Iphone haha.

  13. I don't think I'm convinced to swap my 6S for a 7 currently x

  14. I think it's too big and I've now got used to using an actual camera for my photos x

  15. I can't wait until I can upgrade!

  16. I couldn't be without my plus! I don't think I'll even be able to go back to a ''normal' sized phone again lol!!!!

  17. I'll be upgrading to plus size next time but for now, I'm enjoying my iPhone 7 as it is. I rarely take photos with it (blog, insta wise) so it's purely for the quick syncing with my MacBook x

  18. I have a 7+ and love it so much! I would never change to a smaller size haha

  19. I'm gonna wait until the next one as I have about a billion months left on my contract ! x

  20. Is it bad the only thing I'm really bothered about when it comes to my phone is the camera?! Typical blogger!

  21. I have the 7+ and portrait mode is the best thing that ever happened to that phone haha! I'm annoyed they didn't let you keep it!

  22. What an amazing thing to get through the post!

  23. How awesome - shame you don't get to keep it though! I love having the plus size and you're right - there's no going back!

  24. So cool that you got to try one out! I am definitely going to wait until I am due an upgrade x
