Product Review: Chanel Les Beiges vs YSL Touche Éclat + SWATCHES

It's official. I hate it when brands all release new foundations at the same time, all attempting to be the best. How do you know where to begin?

My top contenders were the YSL Touché Eclat and the Chanel Les Beiges. So I took a trip to my local debenhams and picked up samples of each.

I decided to test them both out on days where I knew it was going to be crazy. With work & rainy conditions. I also decided to do zero touch ups, no fixing my undereyes and no repowdering.

I used them both with the same products I used daily, primer & maybelline under eye corrector. Then set with powder across my t zone & undereye. And here were my results.

Chanel Les Beiges Foundation  is priced at £36 has an included pump and promises a healthy natural glow while protecting you from the harsh environment. Bit of an odd statement but different. I must stay I was more attracted to the healthy glow part, but hey if it's long lasting in wind and rain that's always a bonus!

Pros:
The Chanel has a surprisingly high coverage, applied really well and blended out finally with my fingers as suggested. Set well and looked incredible throughout the day. It was raining heavily all day and it did last very, very well. My skin looked healthier and definitely more glowing.
By the end of the day I had no patchy places around my nose or forehead, still looked as good as when I first applied it.

Cons:
The colour range. I used N10 because N20 was too dark - but N10 was too light and N12 too pink. I am more in between the two shades, so would love to see an N15. N10 did work for me though, would just be worried to tan over summer! I know from speaking to other people their range doesn't seem to be the best for them either. This really does need work.
I should also mention that this does have the classic Chanel smell, so if scents bother you please try a tester before buying :)

The new YSL Touche Eclat Foundation (New Formula)  is priced at £32.50 also comes with its own pump and promises longer lasting glowing skin.

Pros:
Really easy to apply, beautiful finish once applied and really did achieve a glowing complexion.
Their shade range is confusing, but large. I went for B10 but I would probably be better suited to BD10 as this was very warm toned (make me look slightly orange)

Cons:
by hour 5-6 it had begun to really come away from areas around my nose - at this point I really wanted to cave and fix it (I didn't) by hour 8 my nostril area was bare, and it had become patchy all over. So for me a real let down.
The following day I should mention I had a breakout. I know this is specific to me, so don't use this as a reason not to go for it - our skin is all different.

Between the two I would 100% recommend the Chanel if it does come in your shade. Really is a beautiful product.

But I went for neither in the end. In the next few posts there should be a haul & will feature what I finally decided on (after over a month of looking at reviews!)

It came down to the Chanel, the Too Faced Born this Way, Charlotte Tilbury Magic & Nars Sheer Glow :) - I hate deciding!

Let me know your thoughts on foundation in the comments. Would love to hear what your favourite is and why? Which one would you recommend? Let me know :)

  1. Absolutely love how you've done this post - so useful to see these results on your face! They both look like beautiful foundations when first applied, but clearly Chanel wins hands down when it comes to longevity - a really important factor for me. I'm torn between trying this one and another Chanel base - Perfection Lumiere - which my sister wore for her wedding. That had a satin like finish and was also long lasting. Decisions decisions! x

  7. Great review, Erin! I want to try Chanel one, I haven't had a chance to pick up a sample yet. It still looks pretty good after 8 hours of wear. I would recommend Nars sheer glow, you should definitely try it!
